WHAT'S NEW

Our 2024 Uganda Trip

Nine team members, from WA, CA, and Peru visited Uganda in August. PPF supplies $4000 to cover food for the conference lunches, a donation of food supplies for the refugees, and to set up two medical clinics which provide medical checks and medication to over 600 people.

We served at a village called Bukumula and also at Nakavale Refugee Settlement. We worked mostly with the women who needed hope and solutions to life challenges. We found a lot of depression and lack of hope yet listened and came up with a few viable solutions to get started in empowering their lives.

The team was inspired to birth two new programs- one is called "Wome At Heart" which is a mentor program to lift up individual sponsored women who need a boost to change their lives. The second one will be providing educational training and empowering solutions that include wheelchairs and medical supplies.

The 2025 trip will be in early July..

Registration and information is coming out soon. We plan to revisit Bukumula and stay in the Kampala area working with women and implementing these programs. We also are planning a sports camp for Youth and to visit schools.

UGANDA SCHOOL LIBRARY & TRADE EQUIPMENT CONTAINER

In August, 2024 the container full of books, sports supplies, medical equipment, tool equipment for trade training courses arrived in Uganda. We were there to see the lock being broken and the items removed to release. We hope to have more video and pictures soon.

This is a huge achievement. The college receiving the books have trained hundreds of leaders and are working with the government to provide a high quality accredited college.

Thank you again for all those who donated to make a difference.

We now have plans to send two more containers to in 2025. One will be for Uganda with more tool and trade equipment that's needed but also wheelchairs and medical supplies.

NEW LOCATION

We are still saving donations for to secure a warehouse and office location so that we can process the libraries and supplies for projects. We are 60% on the way to meeting our goal to rent a building for one year and have some options we are looking at. We hope to create a community library so that families and volunteers can use the books and relax while behind the scenes we would have enough space to process the donations and prepare them for shipping. We will be ready to secure the building as soon as we have $2000 - 3000 a month in reoccurring donations.

Do you know of any available locations between I5 & Hwy 512, in the north, to Tumwater, in the south?  Please contact us with any questions and ideas. If you would like to donate to this project please note your donation is for the new location.  We are grateful any amount toward this.

We have outgrown the current library warehouse and have doubled the need for more storage. School districts have learned about the vision and offering us more books than we can currently store. We are actively fundraising for a larger location that will accommodate the needs. In the new location we plan to not only have our work areas to process the books and create the libraries, but also have more storage, our office, a local reading area for families and volunteers, and a team lounge.

VOLUNTEERS

We are looking for volunteers who would like to partner with us. Our foundation is currently 100% volunteer led and operated. We always can use more help with the books, with driving and pickup, but especially we need volunteers who would like to work from home online with our webpage and social media content, with our our LMS content creation and editing, and with video creation and editing.

We have a big vision!

Please reach out to us if you have questions or if you want to partner with us to make it happen.

Thank you for partnering with us!

The Libraries for Africa Team

Our team is amazing

We have volunteers of all ages - children, youth, adults and various roles to choose from. Together we send libraries to Ghana and are expanding to Uganda

Students reading the books received at their library

We've sent close to 100 libraries to Ghana. These students are reading at one of them. The students and staff are genuinely very grateful for the books they receive. Prior to receiving a library the teachers usually have a small handful of books for the whole school. They write most of their lessons on the wall, covered with blackboard paint, in the morning. The books increases what the students learn and empowers the teachers to be able to be more effective.

Sewing Empowerment Centers

In the containers there is always extra room for more than the 18 libraries. We love to send donated sewing machines (pedal and electric) along with thread, material (in yards and remnants), and yarn. We can pack other sewing supplies (please contact us for more information). Graduates from the one-year training program receive a gift of sewing machine and supplies to get their business started.

We've outgrown our warehouse location

We have filled our warehouse and storing donations in five locations. There are over 150 more pallets from school districts asking us to pick them up soon. We process the books through sorting, labeling, entering their data into our app, then sorting them onto their assigned pallets. Each pallet contains one libraries with approximately 54 boxes containing about 50 books and weighing 2100-2500 pounds. We are currently looking and fundraising for a new location in the south puget sound area, between 3000-7000 sq. feet, with a cargo bay.

Clean Water

In Nov. one of our team members is traveling to Ghana to work on this project. We will have more information coming out soon.
